Theodore Roosevelt decided to visit his son in South America after he went through a humiliating election.  To get his mind off of things he wanted to go on an adventure. Theodore and other explorers were going to search for the River of Doubt. The 1000 mile journey upriver was dangerous yet thrilling. They decided to live on the highest point of the Rainey season which was not a good decision. They had quickly realized what survival meant. They had to murder one of the explorers, and steal food. Theodore had almost reached the end when his leg was cut terribly.  He begged for them to leave him but they did not listen and his son stayed to take care of him. Amazingly they managed to escape and go back to New York. He spent a few years recovering. He ended up dying because of his leg.
